Whether it be for preventative measures or for a specific illness or 'dis-ease' in the body, nutritional therapy works with you on an individual basis to create a personalised protocol. This is because our bodies, just like our personalities, are completely different from one another and therefore we all have individual and different needs. There is no 'one size fits all' approach or protocol.
How can Nutritional Therapy help you?
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." Hippocrates
The environment, our genetics and our state of mind can contribute to dysfunction or 'dis-ease' in our body. Our daily lifestyle choices from where we choose to live and the food that we put in our bodies can bring your body out of balance.
Each of our bodies is unique in it's requirements and the way it functions. We each react differently to environmental, lifestyle and food choices and situations and it is vital for us to understand that each of our bodies is individual.
When we begin to understand this, we can begin to take steps to achieve optimum functionality and harmony within.
Epigenetic's also play a large role in how our bodies function. The way a gene is expressed can mean people are more susceptible to certain conditions, symptoms or 'dis-ease' meaning that we all have different inherent predispositions that can be caused by familial genetics or genetics that are 'switched' on from our environment and lifestyle.
When correctly identified, nutrition can be used effectively to help us greatly reduce our risk to these individual predispositions or even modify a genes expression entirely.
Genetic and functional testing can be carried out to identify these which helps nutritional therapist and client to work as effectively together as possible.
Nutritional therapy aims to treat the individual on a personalised basis. By looking at the body as a whole and each bodily system, it is possible to target the root cause of any illness or disease rather than treating the symptom or condition in isolation.
We have many different bodily systems; skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, excretory, endocrine, immune, reproductive and integumentary (skin, hair, nails). Nutrition can help support all of these interconnected systems and often other holistic therapies are recommended to be used alongside nutrition to compliment, support and accelerate the healing process.
Combining these elements and creating healthy and positive lifestyle choices for ourselves encourages our bodies to function more appropriately, encouraging our inherent ability to naturally fight against illness and 'dis-ease' on both mental and physical levels.
